The Making of OCM Magazine

It all started on Monday, February 6th, 2023 when initial thoughts of building an online publication for OnChainMonkey turned into full-blown brainstorming and website creation. Shortly after becoming an official OCM holder via purchasing a Karma monkey on February 2nd, the light switch in my brain turned on and it hasn’t gone off since.

Meet the inspiration that sparked OCM Magazine into existence! He is a Karma Incredible with a yellow grin, western clothes, peach fur, and an OG snapback on his head.

This single monkey turned my whole world upside down, and in a good way. I caught the bug and couldn’t stop myself from building this publication to help put OnChainMonkey on display to the world.

What went into the making of OCM Magazine?

Glad you asked. Making OCM Magazine took a combination of critical thinking, planning, creativity, and pure excitement all at the same time. Building OCM Magazine took multiple weeks of mind power, research, coffee, and time staring at computer monitors. It also required dedicated time in solitude, isolated from friends and family members.

Shout out to J25dunn and Snorkeldork for the work they do to contribute to the magazine. J is a talented creator and interviewer. Snorkeldork is a great writer and is working on growing certain areas of the publication. Working alongside other like-minded individuals is such an uplifting and joy-filled experience.

Are we ready? Time to reveal some of the planning that took place before the website was birthed into reality. I like to plan in notebooks, so what you are about to see are the actual pages I used to help brainstorm and formulate ideas for this unique publication.

OCM Magazine Notebook Plans:

*Side note - I made these planning pages before the idea of making this blog for The Journal

What you see here is the very first page written at the beginning of February 2023. I would add to it day by day with new ideas and people that I met in the community that I thought would be good contributors to the magazine.

Sometimes a phrase would come to mind and I would simply jot it down here. Opening sayings on videos were included, as well as certain goals I desire to hit within the Monkeyverse such as Tier 1 Celestial.

Not everything contained on this page has been implemented into the live product, yet each word served as an important piece of the overall puzzle.

A mind map if you will. OCM Magazine represents many moving parts with adventure stories, interviews, comics, articles, and print copies down the road.

The idea for an eBook/paperback has been thrown around as well. A possible topic could be, “A Day in the Life of an OCM Member”. That was the first topic that came to mind, but there are many others as well.

The checklist. This page serves as your basic to-do list, comprising of various pages for the site. If a page got completed, it would get checked off and only tweaked from that point forward.

Even though there is a plethora of tools available for note taking online, I still gravitate towards the ol’ pen and paper method.

Community Feedback

OCM Magazine would not be where it is today without the kind words and encouragement from the OCM community.

Here are some of the statements from the OCM official Discord channel:

  • Really excited about this project @KenM and I want to better understand the overall voice that you are thinking about. What sort of current magazine or publication would be a good example of the sort of tone, voice, style etc that you are thinking about going for?

  • @KenM I love your OCM Magazine proposition. I’ve been publishing Vagobond Mag for more than a year now (on chain and readable on platform) and if I can be of any assistance, please let me know. It is a great proposal. Cheers.

  • @KenM with the podcast voice. Love the prop!

The following audio clip was taken from a Prop House Twitter Spaces where all OCM community members who proposed a project could give a short pitch. This clip is the response from a couple prominent community members after my pitch.

Transitioning into the future

Now that OCM Magazine is launched, there is so much more to come! This is just the beginning of the endless possibilities that comes with content creation. The sky is the limit as OnChainMonkey continues to deliver their NFT expertise, while the community builds and innovates alongside the Metagood team.

We here at OCM Magazine couldn’t be more proud to release this publication to the OCM community, as well as those who haven’t joined yet and are still on the fence of whether or not OCM is the place for you. Let us be the first to tell you…

Welcome home.
