Meta-David - NFT Podcast Host and OCM Member
Certain superstars are basketball players with solid jump shots. Some are chess players who master the art of strategy. Others are skillful broadcasters with a strong knack for communication, such as Meta-David from the OnChainMonkey community.
Meta-David is a talented podcast host, passionate NFT collector, and occasional art creator whom we had the pleasure of sitting down with. The discussion revolved around his history in NFTs, OCM, and what ultimately led him to hosting his very own podcast that is live on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, and Stitcher.

How Meta-David Entered the NFT Space
Meta-David got his start in crypto back in 2017.
“I knew about [crypto] before, but, similar to a lot of the sentiments that people have now, I had some reservations… I didn’t know if it had staying power, but I bought into it.”
Meta-David understood the underlying technology and has always been optimistic and bullish about blockchain technology, yet had some reservations about cryptocurrencies and got in more as a “FOMO play”.

“In 2017… I knew what Bitcoin was. I bought it, checked that box, and forgot about it.”
2021 is when crypto came to the forefront again for Meta-David, and it was mostly because of NFTs, or non-fungible tokens. He was hearing more and more about NFTs and thought how interesting they were as the use cases really started to click. Even though Meta-David ultimately decided to pass on Bored Ape Yacht Club when he had the chance, Super Bowl 2022 is what re-lit the flame of his attention.
He bought into Slacker Duck Club thinking that it could be the next BAYC, but it didn’t turn out that way. Meta-David started off financially motivated, but quickly transitioned into being…
“just a lover of what's going on in the space as far as community goes, meeting people from all walks of life through all corners of the earth.”
He began collecting art which then evolved into meeting many emerging, 1-of-1 artists. Meeting those artists and hearing their stories opened up Meta-David’s eyes to a new world of possibilities where the sky is the limit.

“Many artists haven't hit it big yet, but they clearly are talented and they're doing all the right things... That inspired me to start my own podcast which was going to focus on exactly that… emerging 1-of-1 artists.”
Meta-David called the podcast, Dead NFT Artist Society, which launched in June 2022. He owned a Dead Fellows PFP at the time, and, it was a play on words with the movie, “Dead Poet Society”.
Dead NFT Artist Society is a podcast about 1/1 NFT artists from around the world. Well-known NFT collector, metadavid.eth, sits down and talks with emerging artists in this space. The podcast is about knowing the artists on a deeper level, diving into their background, their journey, and discover what inspires them.
“I kind of just tied everything together, and I branded it as such.”

OnChainMonkey in the Mix
Ryan Carson's “Daily Dose” Twitter spaces was what repositioned OnChainMonkey onto Meta-David’s radar. Amanda Terry, Danny Yang, and Mike (@goodthings) showed up on the spaces to discuss the project. OCM was something that Meta-David was ruminating a lot about.
“[OnChainMonkey] checked a lot of boxes as far as the things that I was looking for. I like the fact that it started off as a free mint, so it was very clear to me that the intentions weren't a money grab, but rather just to genuinely drop something that's really innovative and… they've generated value.”

Meta-David put up a post on Twitter asking if the OCM community is one that he should be joining? People from all over the Web3 space (not just OCM) were chiming in and co-signing saying, “Yes, this is a collection that I would recommend joining if you can”.
“At that point, I was like, okay, I really have to join this community”
He had a lot of people that responded to the post, and he was feeling the peer pressure. He went ahead and bought a floor Karma which then led him to join the Discord. After 2 weeks he liked the community so much that he bought a Genesis monkey and two desserts to create a full set.

Meta-David: Yes. And in fact, I think at the time of this recording, they're going to give more details today. So I will be tracking that very closely. I'm very interested and I'm a big believer in what Danny's doing with Bitcoin and inscriptions and the Ordinals protocol. It's something that I've been tracking really closely.
