HeavyD 1-on-1 Interview
Let’s Focus - Heavy D 1on1
@heavysided
Welcome back to another 1-on-1 interview that I like to call 'Let's Focus'. In these 1-on-1 interviews I like to shine a spotlight on an individual doing great things within the OnChainMonkey community. This time I had the amazing pleasure to interview Heavy D, a giga-builder within the OnChainMonkey community.
Our chat covered plenty of areas including Heavy sharing his extensive background as a creative, a lot of random talk about music and other twists in the road. Let’s do a quick recap on some of the highlights.
Background
While chatting before our interview, Heavy and I connected over a band’s T-shirt he had on that I used to listen to as well. The t-shirt and our early talk about music sparked again my long-lost love for music that I've ignored for far too long, thanks again Heavy.
As you'll see in the interview, Heavy’s home office acts as a home jam session as well. The desire of a creative was apparent in the frame of the camera during every topic we happened to stumble upon in our conversation. Let’s focus on some of the topics we dove into.
There was so much that Heavy was open and willing to share, it is hard to know where to start. It was extremely interesting to learn that Heavy was a semi-pro Cricket player. He spent over decade playing at First Grade level in Australia and also played League Cricket in England. Quite a feat for anyone to play a sport at any professional level, but also in two regions is quite an achievement.
As a former high-school Baseball player that looked into semi-pro/college athletics extensively but chose a different path, I want to give a big ‘high-five’ to Heavy for chasing that dream as long as possible. It’s a tough choice.

Magazine company
The next area of the discussion I'd like to highlight is when Heavy D bought into a magazine company focused on alternative water-sports. Again, I could relate as someone that wanted to own a record store like in the movie ‘High Fidelity’ for most of my teenage+ years.
Because of this, I can understand how passion in an area can make you do things that your brain may not agree with fully. However, as we dove into, I made the point that you never know what knowledge on the surface or underneath that may have helped you build the next project or the next one. Each step along the way brings us to our current path.
Flextag.io
An area we touched on for a bit in our roughly hour long discussion, but not long enough, was the amazing new creation that Heavy was critical in making, Flextag.io. The simple beauty of the streamlined website, flawless user experience then shipping within the States while never stepping foot on US soil.
Impressive to say the least. I really look forward to receiving mine (Update, it’s being forward to Las Vegas as of writing) & already have plans on an additional one or more. If you haven't looked at this product yet, stop reading, go to Flextag.io and check how cool of a technology they have created. This article will still be here to read.
With so much sharing of amazing stories, I feel like this time I spent with Heavy D could turn into a biography very quickly. When Ken or I go into these recorded interviews, we generally have a plan but truly have no clue where things may go. This was one of those times where I found myself listening & then remembered I have to ask more questions.
Heavy D, I am truly impressed thoroughly by you and thank you for sharing extensively with me along the broader community. You exemplify so much of the RISE mentality within the OCM community. We are rooting for you every step of the way!
