Let’s Focus: 1-on-1 with imjosh (@imjoshETH)

By: J (@J25dunn)

Welcome to this edition of Let’s Focus. This time I had the pleasure of sitting down with ‘imjosh’, one of the amazing members of the OnChainMonkey team and community. There are so many amazing contributors to the OCM team and here at OCM Magazine, we felt it would be good to put a spotlight on some of the so-called unsung heroes of OCM.

In this conversation with imjosh, we dive into some of his background, how he got into crypto/NFTs and then some fun discussion of poker near the end.

PFP Video interview

Background

Around 2017… imjosh, like many, began to dip his toes in the cryptocurrency world by purchasing some Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH). With the rise of onboarding tools becoming simpler for users like Coinbase and other maturing aspects of cryptocurrency, this is a similar story that many of us can relate to. imjosh then dabbled in some other alternative tokens or ‘altcoins’ as commonly referred to.

During this period, imjosh became involved in early Discord servers for various crypto-related groups. While learning more surrounding his interests in crypto, being involved in the earlier years of Discord allowed imjosh to learn the intricacies and functionality within Discord servers.

While Discord has come a long way from a gaming-centric application for users to jump into PC games together, Discord servers have now become the go-to for those in Web3 looking to connect with a community, learn more about details of projects, and/or just joining in on some fun that may be happening that day.

After a period of time, imjosh became what most would call a ‘maxi’ behind BTC and ETH after doing some altcoin trading. Many, including myself, generally feel that overall utility of these top 2 marketcap blockchains have the long-term staying power within the crypto space.

In early 2021, through a online poker community, imjosh and other members started to become aware of an NFT project called NBATopShot, the NBA’s foray into the Web3 space pretty early on with digital collectibles, similar to trading cards from many of our childhoods, with a fast forward into the Metaverse.

While learning more about NBATopShot, imjosh was learning about ‘sniping’ unique traits, accumulating a collection, and other skills useful across the Web3 space.

OCM Beginnings

While scouring through the jungle of NFT social media, imjosh was fortunate enough to come across the OnChainMonkey community from an early tweet of one of the investors tied to OCM. While he was not able to mint, shortly after mint imjosh secured his current PFP and I would take a guess that it is his forever PFP, along with using his skills obtained previously to start collecting various OCM Genesis.

By being involved in the OCM community early on and having a background in Discord server development, imjosh was onboarded to the OCM team like several other community members have been since the launch of the project.

Whenever I have had a question or needed some help within the OCM Discord Server, imjosh has always been extremely helpful. The entire team at OCM has been amazing at passing down the mentality of !RISE from top to bottom. Imjosh, along with other mods and community members, are always eager to talk OCM, help newcomers navigate the Monkeyverse of OCM and, in general, are open to answering questions big and small.

While in between helping others, community members enjoy showing off their glow sticks with our OCM Dance emoji or catching up on how someone’s family is doing since the last time they talked. In this writer’s opinion, this is hard to find in the Web3 space and I eagerly urge everyone to come check it out.

Wrapping Up

I want to extend my gratitude to imjosh for joining in on this 1-on-1 to spotlight him as someone in the OCM community doing great things mainly behind the scenes. imjosh helped launch the banana poker initiative early on with the help of other community members and helps facilitate the community banana token being used to play poker.

In my opinion, this was an early use case that showed the community token of bananas had value within the community and things could be built around it. This doesn’t even get into the several intricacies that make the OCM Discord server top notch. Again, thank you imjosh for all you do for our OCM Community and it would NOT be the same without you.

Please listen to our full interview where we spend the 2nd half discussing the upcoming OCM Dimensions generally and dive into some poker chat as well. It was really fun and looking forward to seeing imjosh playing poker for bananas one of these days so he can make me look silly.

Cheers until then!
